If you have Questions or would like to schedule an advising appointment. please contact: Two winners will present their projects at a campus-wide event highlighting how they found success at Craven Community College. The campus won't feel so unfamiliar. Your homework will feel much doable and even possibly enjoyable. Your time management skills will get better. It just takes some time. You want to just be able to hit the ground running. But you'll first have to learn to walk. Yeah, the first semester is a struggle, but a worthwhile one that teaches you a whole lot about yourself. Lanyards aren't even that convenient when it comes down to it. There are actually wallets with little key holders and clasps on them, which are infinitely more convenient than lanyards will ever be. During my first semester of college, I spent a lot time trying to get myself motivated, listening to inspirational music and reading articles on study tips. But I actually spent very little time being motivated and working hard. I didn't want to start studying or doing homework until I felt fully inspired. Which meant that very little work actually got done. During my second semester, I learned that you just have to dive right into working hard. You can't wait till you feel fully ready. Because when do you ever feel fully ready for anything? Like basically never. I'm pretty sure I leave my apartment every morning rushing and feeling like I must have forgotten something. Dorms. The tiny rooms I have to live in my first two years depending on the school, they usually tend to be on average 12 x 19 feet. Simply put that is tiny, and I have a lot of stuff to say the least it is amazing how much “stuff” a student can pack into this tiny space. Nathan (2004)“In addition to articles like mine, they had joysticks, couches, mountain bikes, ski and sports equipment, guitars and keyboards, large and elaborate sound systems, multiple – layered electronics shelves holding TV’s, VCRs, DVD players, refrigerators, tables, cabinets, floor and pole lamps, overstuffed throw pillows, as well as coffeemakers, slow cookers, and illegal sandwich grills”.( p. 19). To say the least that’s a lot of “stuff”. Even though it is a lot, its everything an average student would need to survive the first year and all this stuff would somewhat feel like a reminder of home since this would be our new “home”. I personally would do the same thing by bringing a bunch of items that would remind me of home, anything that would help me feel more comfortable in my new environment. I’m excited to gain a roommate someone I could befriend, hopefully. But I would try to keep my dorm room as simple as possible, even though I’m pretty sure that would not happen. “Each room contained two single beds, a small sink and mirror what makes you laugh essay, a large built – in armored, and a double desk running the width of the room with multiple drawers and bookshelves, but almost all residents add creatively to the available storage space". (Nathan, 2004, p. 20). My dorm will clearly reflect me, when I move I think I will enjoy living in a dorm. Dorms I believe are a fun way to connect with someone new, and to learn to be independent. But there is so much more to college besides just living in a dorm. Dorms. But there is so much more to college besides just living in a dorm. Besides living in dorms going to classes, parties, etc. There are other things I can do as a freshman. Most people think that most students go to classes then just relax the rest of the day but that’s not the case for a good portion of students. According to Nathan (Nathan, 2004, p.34) “In total, two – thirds of all students were working, including 54 percent of the first – year students and 88 percent of seniors. Nationally, full – time students worked an average of ten hours per week”. ( p.34). Many students involve themselves with work and clubs. I know I will be joining a sorority mainly because they are a positive aspect in the college life, they do community service, by helping out with fundraisers and other events around the college campus. I will also have a job to be making some money for myself so I can eventually move into my own apartment off campus. Nathan stated during her experience that (Nathan, 2004 essay civil disobedience,p.34) “Many Students who spoke with me viewed clubs and community work with this same eye for career”. (p.34). I think that by doing community service and joining clubs will help me discover what else I love to do, and possibly what I could major in. By doing things that get me involved with the community, and fundraisers it could possibly lead to a job, because I would be meeting new people such as associates, assistants good essays for esl, etc. I would love doing all of this in my freshman year it wont make it any easier but at least ill enjoy it. According to Nathan (2004) “The classrooms, which seat about one hundred people, are tiered lecture halls with chairs that are fixed in place. Students don’t generally know the names of more than a few others in the class".(p.90). I think this is partially true because it all depends on the college I choose to go to, some classes may be smaller than fifteen per room. But the portion of this quote I think is true that all freshman will experience is the fact none of us will know each other the first few times, or for the entire time of taking the class. I think it also kind of depends on how social a person is with their peers, I’m a social person myself. One class I plan on taking when I am a freshman is psychology. "Our Psychology degrees can help you understand the personalities around you, as well as build critical thinking and problem-solving skills which can help you in any field". (University of Phoenix starting words for essay paragraphs, 2006 - 2009). The University of Phoenix has a really good psychology program and I hope I get the chance to take a psychology class in college. Another class I would be interested in during college would be an astronomy class. Rutgers College has a astronomy course that is taken by many of its students. Rutgers (2007) "A predominantly descriptive introduction to current ideas concerning the nature and origin of the earth, the solar system, the galaxy, and the universe; neutron stars and black holes; the "big-bang"; the possibility of life outside the earth. 109: Development of our understanding of the solar system from the time of the Greeks to the present day. 110: Current understanding of stars, galaxies and the universe " (p.1). Astronomy has always been an interest to me, mainly because of my grandmother telling me stories about all the stars. I also loved learning about the Greeks in freshman and sophomore year of high school, their way of life is just so different from ours is now and their belief are so bizarre but so interesting to learn about. One other class I would be excited to take during my college years, would be an engineering course. There are many colleges that offer really strong and popular engineering courses, but if I was to take an engineering course I would want to take it at Standford. Khatib(2009) "The purpose of this course is to introduce you to basics of modeling, design, planning, and control of robot systems. In essence, the material treated in this course is a brief survey of relevant results from geometry, kinematics, statics custom essay term paper, dynamics, and control" .(p.3). I have always been pretty good at math and have had a strong interest in robots, I think that this would be an interesting course that I would take during my college career. Stanford would be a great place to take a course such as this one, because Stanford is well know and has access to many different resources to make the experience worth while. My Freshman Year (draft #2) My Freshman Year Because my parents are not with me and my college instructors will not be as lenient as my high school teachers, it is up to me to make sure I study and complete my assignments. I have not had problems with these responsibilities previously, but I have to maintain those habits with virtually no one to encourage me personally, and I expect my workload to increase, so I will have to become accustomed to juggling more responsibilities than I did in high school. However, responsibility encompasses more than academic obligations; I also will have to figure out for myself the kinds of people I should and should not surround myself with and the kinds of activities I should stay away from. I do not consider myself to be an extremely impressionable person, so I hope that my natural aversion to things I should not partake in will stick with me throughout this year. College is a lot different than high school. You may decide to commute from your home to a local campus. Your freshman experience will definitely make an impression on you. Without doubt, though, the most dramatic freshman year is for those living away from home. What can you expect as you head off into the wonderful world of higher education? On some of those long ielts essays internet, seemingly endless nights of studying and writing, it will be only natural for you to long for the good old days. Hang in there. These down periods will pass. Whatever you do, don’t make major decisions about your major, your courses, or even your roommate during one of these blue periods. Things always look better in the morning. I definitely don’t mean that teachers at SHS are evil and want to see their students’ hopes and self-esteem plummet down, but it’s quite the contrary. My teachers wanted to see me succeed, so they treated me like an adult; the way I needed and deserved to be treated in order to succeed in life. I definitely wouldn’t get into college, get a job, or buy a house if I expected all my problems to be solved and wrapped neatly in a bow. No one can succeed in life without dealing with his or her own problems; no excuses are allowed.
